Here it is again―another new year! What do we desire to accomplish or become in this brand-new beginning? Most of us, if not all, have situations and personal traits we would like to improve or change. Will this be another year where we start strong and soon fizzle out, or will we develop a reasonable plan to reach the goals we desire? It’s our choice.
As a long-time educator, mostly in higher education, I’m familiar with goals and objectives. Teaching tasks included presenting specific aspects of the subject for students to learn. My purpose, however, was for them to develop an appreciation and understanding of how the topic related to and could improve their individual lives.
Nourish Body and Spirit
When I later began writing blogs, I sought a phrase that would inspire readers to comprehend the importance of both the physical and spiritual bodies we have. Thus, I sought to guide others “To Nourish Body and Spirit.” A lot is written about nourishing our bodies. Some information is valid while much that is touted isn’t helpful and could possibly cause harm. It takes discernment and listening to those trained in the discipline of foods and nutrition who can and do espouse appropriate and healthful information.
How do we nourish our bodies spiritually? On January 1, 2025, a phrase in my daily devotional read “When I spend time in God’s Word, I nourish my soul.1” So often we place more emphasis on our physical well-being than on our spiritual condition. The author of this devotion understood the basic principle of how to nourish our spirits.
Healthy eating is important, but remember we are much more than just what we eat. Ask yourself, “Who am I really, and who do I want to be by the end of 2025?” This year as you consume the best food choices for good health and well-being, consider nourishing your body daily with spiritual thoughts and activities.
Happy New Year
